Introduction Flow and filling ability of root canal sealers are indispensable for hermetic sealing of the root canal. Micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) can be used as a complementary methodology to evaluate such properties. Objective To evaluate the flow and filling ability of AH Plus, Endofill and Sealapex by conventional methodology and micro-CT. Material and method The flow of the sealers was analyzed according to ISO 6876/2012 and complemented by the area evaluation. Glass plates were manufactured with diameters of 1×1×2 mm and 1×1×1 mm (length, width and height), with a central cavity and four grooves in the horizontal and vertical directions. Each material was placed in the central cavity. Another glass plate and a metal weight were placed on the cement and kept for 10 minutes. The glass plate/sealer set was scanned using micro-CT. The flow was calculated by linear measurement of the material in the grooves. The central filling (mm3) was calculated in the central cavity and the lateral filling was measured up to 2 mm from the central cavity. Data were submitted to ANOVA/Tukey tests (α=0.05). Result All evaluated sealers presented flow according to ISO 6876 standards. The materials showed central cavity filling capacity higher than 80% and lateral filling greater than 75%. There was no difference in flow (mm and mm2) and in the filling ability (mm3) provided by the materials (p>0.05). Conclusion All evaluated root canal sealers showed adequate flow and filling capacity, suggesting their clinical application.

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of bioceramic sealers on the fracture resistance of endodontically treated teeth compared to resin-based sealers and zinc oxide and eugenol based sealers. Methods: Seventy (n=70) freshly human extracted single rooted teeth were selected. The samples were biomechanically prepared and classified according to the type of the sealer used into four groups as follows; Group 1 (n=21) obturated with gutta-percha and Endofill sealer (Dentsply, Germany). Group 2 (n=21) obturated with gutta-percha and AD-seal sealer (Meta Biomed, Korea). Group 3 (n=21) obturated with gutta-percha and MTA filapex sealer (Angelus, Brazil). Group 4 (n=7) Control group (unobturated). All samples were kept in saline until evaluation. The samples were further classified according to the observation time into: subgroup A (n=7) evaluated after one week, subgroup B (n=7) evaluated after two weeks and subgroup C (n=7) evaluated after one month. Samples were loaded vertically after obturation using Universal Testing Machine until fracture. Results: MTA filapex group showed higher fracture resistance values than the other groups with no significant difference. No significant difference was found between the subgroups evaluated at different time intervals. Conclusion: Neither the type of root canal sealer nor the time lapsed affects fracture resistance significantly.

An abstract is a brief overview of a scientific, clinical or review manuscript as well as a stand‐alone summary of a conference abstract. Scientists, clinician–scientists and clinicians rely on the summary information provided in the abstracts of systematic reviews to assist in subsequent clinical decision‐making. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta‐Analyses (PRISMA) for Abstracts checklist was developed to improve the quality, accuracy and completeness of abstracts associated with systematic reviews and meta‐analyses. The PRISMA for Abstracts checklist provides a framework for authors to follow, which helps them provide in the abstract the key information from the systematic review that is required by stakeholders. The PRISMA for Abstracts checklist contains 12 items (title, objectives, eligibility criteria, information sources, risk of bias, included studies, synthesis of results, description of the effect, strength and limitations, interpretation, funding and systematic review registration) under six sections (title, background, methods, results, discussion, other). The current article highlights the relevance and importance of the items in the PRISMA for Abstracts checklist to the specialty of Endodontology, while offering explanations and specific examples to assist authors when writing abstracts for systematic reviews when reported in manuscripts or submitted to conferences. Strict adherence to the PRISMA for Abstracts checklist by authors, reviewers and journal editors will result in the consistent publication of high‐quality abstracts within Endodontology.
