Effect of Potassium Humate Application on Yield and Nutrient Uptake of Maize Grown In a Calcareous Soil

Abstract: Potassium humate (K-humate) is a promising natural resource to improve yield and nutrient uptake by crops. A field experiment was conducted to assess the efficacy of Khumate application in combination with chemical fertilizers on enhancing yield and nutrient uptake of maize grown in a calcareous soil, western of Nile Delta, Egypt in two successive summer seasons (2015 and 2016). The Khumate was applied at a rate of 15 kg ha -1 along with an increasing rate of chemical N, P and K fertilizers, varying from 0 to … Show more

“…Different application rates of K-humate solution (0.5%, 1.0%, 0.4% (4 g L -1 )) were found to increase yield and yield components and plant growth parameters (Quilty &Cattle, 2011 andThakur et al, 2018). Additionally, K-humate improves soil physical, chemical properties and nutrient movements and reduces hard effects of salt stress Ali, 2018 andSherif &Hedia, 2015). Humate in sandy soil showed positive effect on available N, P, K nutrient, soil chemical properties and fertility (El-Etr and Hassan, 2017).…”

“…On other hand, there was a positive relation with highly significant between RY% and OM%. In addition, K humate causes increased of growth and yield response due to effects of increased water holding capacity, nutrient availability, hormonal activity or microbial growth, and an increased organic matter mineralization as reported by Kumar and Singh (2017), Ibrahim and Ali (2018) and Abdeen (2020).…”

“…Humic substances are natural organic substances derived from various sources that potentially impact their use in improving the physical, chemical and biological properties of soils, therefore increasing nutrients uptake and plant yield (Abd-All et al, 2017;Ibrahim and Ali, 2018;Tan, 2003 andNardi et al, 2002;Jones et al, 2007). Humic substances enhance cell membrane permeability and regulate carbon cycle, protein synthesis and activates biomass production (Eshwaret al, 2017 andUlukan, 2008).…”
