This investigation was made to find out new discoveries from the correlation and heritability for ten yield and participating attributes in eight rapeseed genotypes at the experimental field of Oil Seeds Section, Agriculture Research Institute, Tandojam during 2017-18 in a randomized complete block design entailing three replications. The analysis of variance articulated highly significant and significant differences for all the growth and yield supporting attributes. In case of correlation study, plant height showed positive and significant relationship with seed yield plant-1. Days to 75% flowering was non-significantly positive correlated with seed yield plant-1. There existed positive and significant correlation of number of siliquas of plant-1 with seed yield plant-1. The associations of number of seed siliqua-1 were noted significant and positive with seed yield plant-1. There was noticed positive and significant association of number of branches plant-1 with seed yield plant-1. Seed yield plant-1 was only positively as well as non-significantly correlated with seed yield acre-1. Seed index revealed positive correlations with oil content and seed yield acre-1. Higher estimates of heritability were unveiled for days to 75% flowering (h 2 = 89.94%), days to 75% siliqua formation, (h 2 = 96.77%), number of branches plant-1 (h 2 = 66.83%) and oil content (h 2 = 99.55%). It was concluded that in the existence of correlation, heritability can also be regarded quite imperative for the betterment of any polygenic attribute, nonetheless these genetic materials are preferred for further breeding programmes in the development of rapeseed genotypes in future.

In semi-arid tropics, sugarcane yield and quality are affected by deficiencies in soil nutrients, including potassium and calcium. We examined the effects of two different potassium fertilizers, a traditional muriate of potash (MOP) and polyhalite (which contains potassium and calcium), on sugarcane growth, yield, and quality. Experimental treatments compared a control 0 kg K ha−1 (T1) to potassium applied as MOP only at 80 kg K ha−1 (T2) and at 120 kg K ha−1 (T3), and potassium applied as an equal split of MOP and polyhalite at 80 kg K ha−1 (T4) and at 120 kg K ha−1 (T5). Relative to the control the potassium-enhanced treatments had improved rates of key growth parameters, and of cane yields, which were 4.4, 6.2, 8.2, and 9.9% higher in T2, T3, T4,, and T5, respectively, than in T1. Regardless of fertilizer used, potassium applied at 80 kg K ha−1 achieved the highest sugar purity and commercial cane sugar content. All potassium fertilizer treatments had reduced (although non-significant) incidences of three key sugarcane insect pests. The economic benefits of polyhalite were reduced due to its higher cost relative to MOP. Combining MOP and polyhalite equally to achieve an application rate of 80 kg K ha−1 is recommended to enhance sugarcane growth and yield.

Potassium is involved in a diverse range of processes within plants that are needed for their growth, yield and better quality. The polyhalite as a hydrated evaporate mineral that can be used directly as a source of potassic fertilizer. However, research on polyhalite's appropriateness and effectiveness, the present investigation aimed to evaluate the effect of polyhalite on growth, yield attributes, and yield of blackgram variety ADT 5 at Chinnakandiankuppam village, Vriddhachalam, Cuddalore district, Tamil Nadu, during 2021. The experiment was laid out in randomized block design consisting of ten treatments viz., T1 (absolute control), T2 (-K), T3 (12.5 kg K2O ha-1 as muriate of potash (MOP)), T4 (25 kg K2O ha-1as MOP), T5 (37.5 kg K2O ha-1 as MOP), T6 (50 kg K2O ha-1 as MOP), T7 (12.5 kg K2O ha-1 as polyhalite), T8 (25 kg K2O ha-1 as polyhalite), T9 (37.5 kg K2O ha-1 as polyhalite), T10 (50 kg K2O ha-1 as polyhalite). The experiment revealed that the application of 37.5 kg K2O ha-1 as polyhalite (T9) significantly (5%) enhanced the growth attributes (plant height (38.7 cm), number of branches plant-1 (12.97), leaf area index (2.13), number of nodules plant-1 (18.76) and dry matter production (1972 hg ha-1), yield attributes (pod length (8.21 cm), number of pods plant-1 (20.05), number of seeds pod-1 (7.14) and test weight (3.53 g)) and grain yield (1439 kg ha-1), haulm yield (1876 kg ha-1) of blackgram. Thus the study would be helpful to farmers for yield maximization of blackgram through polyhalite as potassic fertilizer.
