Effect of Physical Exercise and Gender on Information Processing and Choice Reaction Time of University Students

Abstract: The study aimed to examine the impact of a team sport match on the cognitive coding-decoding system and the psychomotor reaction time on university students. Twenty-one healthy university learners (average age = 21.5 ± .3 years) were administered the WAIS-IV scales and Leed Test psychomotors before and after a single bout of exercise. The exercise treatments consisted of a 5-min warm-up, a 5-min cooldown, and handball game for 20 min. The means were compared by ANOVA at the .05 significance level. The results … Show more

“…Other researchers also support that online games enhance several cognitive and health aspects of individuals, including reaction time, memory, attention, weight reduction and overall well-being [21,22]. However, the results were consistent with the studies of [23,24], who supported the positive impact of the sport training programs and electronic games on increasing perception and motivation, flexibility, information processing and regularity in practicing movement ( [41,42]. Games can have a significant role in the prevention of excessive weight gain.…”

“…The recent literature sources show that the main processes of cognitive and intellectual activity of athletes in most sports are the abilities of attention, memory, and thinking. It can be assumed that the logical thinking, as the functions of attention and memory (memorizing, information storage, and reproduction) is an active process [17,18,19], and therefore it can be changed under the influence of the training of different nature and direction. The studies by R. Ghildiyal [20] indicate the positive effect of sports on the body of athletes, which is observed not only on the physical level but also on the mental.…”

“…This study also contributes to the literature by identifying several factors in the social and physical environment associated with physical fitness and pleasurable activities [37]. In the context of gender, the results of other studies indicate that female students are more interested in modern physical learning which is not included in the school program while male students prefer sports games [38]. Furthermore, with regard to physical exercise in handball, the performances of males in total reaction time were significantly higher than females, but no significant differences were noted in speed of treatment information and visual perception time.…”
