Effect of phosphorus application on substrate and use of saline water in sugar-apple seedlings

Adding phosphorus in the composition of the substrate for the seedlings production contributes to a faster growth of seedlings, increases the resistance to biotic and abiotic stresses, also improves the efficiency in the use of nutrients and water in many vegetal species. The objective of this research was to evaluate the vegetative growth and quality of Annona squamosa L. seedlings, propagated by seeds, regarding the application of single superphosphate in enriched sugarcane bagasse substrate. The completely randomized design consisted of six treatments arranged according to the following application doses (0; 0.75; 1.5; 2.25; 3.0 and 3.75 kg), using the single superphosphate in substrate, with four replicates per treatment. At 120 days after sowing, number of leaves, leaf area, shoot height, stem diameter, shoot dry mass, root dry mass, total dry mass, ratio between shoot dry mass and root dry mass, chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b, total chlorophyll, and Dickson’s Quality Index were evaluated. The maximum growth of the pine cone plants were noted when added single superphosphate to the substrate in doses ranging from 0.6 to 1.2 kg.m-3. The phosphate fertilizer favored the growth especially of the roots and leaf area and improved the quality of pine cone seedlings.

Lippia alba (Mill.) N.E.Br. (lemongrass) is a spice and medicinal plant species, with fledgling studies related to mineral nutrition and luminosity on foliar and vegetative responses. Thus, the aim of this study was to assess the foliar aspects and production of L. alba under two light conditions (full sun and 50% shading ) and four levels of phosphorus-P (0, 150, 300 and 450 mg kg-1). The L. alba seedlings presented changes in physiological indices and photochemical responses based on chlorophyll-a fluorescence. The phosphate fertilization helped mitigate the light stress for the synthesis of chlorophylls. The greatest leaf biomass production occurred with addition of P. The principal components analysis explained 74% of the variability, with leaf number, initial fluorescence and specific leaf area in principal component 1 (PC 1) and bud number, survival and leaf area in PC 2. Two groups formed in the cluster analysis, with lower distances between P300 full sun and P450 shading (2.31). The seedlings cultivated under full sun presented a higher survivability and seedling quality. The production of L. alba seedlings should be done under full sun with the addition of 450 mg kg-1 of phosphorus.

Cultivation of Custard-Apple Irrigated With Saline Water Under Combinations of Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potassium

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of combinations of nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium doses on the production components of custard-apple irrigated with saline waters. The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse, using a Neossolo Regolítico (Entisol) of clay loam texture in Campina Grande-PB, Brazil. The treatments were distributed in a randomized block design, in a 2 × 8 factorial scheme, with three replicates, corresponding to two levels of electrical conductivity of water - ECw (0.8 and 3.0 dS m-1) and eight combinations of fertilization with nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium (100-100-100; 100-100-125; 100-125-100; 100-125-125; 125-100-100; 125-100-125; 125-125-100 and 125-125-125% of the recommendation, for the third year of cultivation). The combination of 100-100-100% corresponded to 100, 60 and 60 g of N, P2O5, K2O per plant per year, respectively. High concentrations of salts in the irrigation water reduced the number of fruits, fresh fruit mass, total number of seeds and mass of seeds of custard-apple. Plants achieved the best development when grown under 125-100-100, 125-125-125 and 100-100-100% combinations of N-P-K recommendation. Irrigation with ECw of 3.0 dS m-1 associated with the 100-125-125% combination of fertilization increased the average mass and height of the custard-apple fruits.
