We calculate the effect of the P, CP-odd electron-nucleon interaction on the electric dipole moment of the 199 Hg atom by evaluating the nuclear spin matrix elements in terms of the nuclear shell model. It is found that the neutron spin matrix element of the 199 Hg nucleus is Ψ| σnz|Ψ ≈ −0.4 with a dominant configuration of p 1/2 orbital neutron. We also derive constraints on the CP phases of Higgs-doublet models, supersymmetric models, and leptoquark models from the latest experimental limit |dHg| < 7.4 × 10 −30 e cm.

These lecture notes are based on a first course on the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model. The level of the notes is introductory and pedagogical. Standard Model, basic supersymmetry algebra and its representations are considered as prerequisites. The topics covered include particle content, structure of the lagrangian, supersymmetry breaking soft terms, electroweak symmetry breaking and the sparticle mass spectrum. In this short reappraisal of spontaneous lepton number violation in a supersymmetric scenario implemented through singlet sneutrino vacuum expectation value (VEV), we contribute with two new things in the context where the lepton number symmetry is global: (i) provide explicit expressions of R-parity violating couplings in terms of the neutrino Yukawa couplings and the singlet sneutrino VEV, and (ii) estimate the limit on this VEV using the current knowledge of the light neutrino mass and the astrophysical constraint on the Majoron-electron coupling. Besides, we put updated constraints on the VEV and Yukawa coupling of the singlet superfield when lepton number is gauged.
