“…Moreover, our results revealed that the effectiveness of the triple therapy has decreased over time, corresponding with the findings of several previous studies [4]. According to other studies that included Korean children, the rate of H. pylori eradication with the 2-week triple therapy comprising PPI, amoxicillin, and clarithromycin was 84.6% in 1998-2000 and 74% in 1999-2004 [10,11]. The European pediatric treatment registry recently reported the results from the use of 27 different regimens in 518 children, where the eradication rate by the standard 2-week triple therapy, i.e., the same regimen as ours, was 60.5% [12].…”

“…The rate of H. pylori infection is intimately connected to a country's socioeconomic level, race, and age, and is higher in developing countries than in developed countries. As the economic state worsens, the rate of infection rises, and as age increases, the frequency of infection also increases 21,22. Bahu et al15 reported that in children with H. pylori infection, the frequency of nodular gastritis and the density of H. pylori increase as they age.…”

“…Other studies in South Korea have reported a decreasing tendency in the rate of H. pylori eradication by the administration of omeprazole with amoxicillin and clarithromycin, specifically a decrease from 81.0% between 1998 and 200037), to 74.0% between 1999 and 200038), and to 67.7% between 2004 and 201239). Moreover, it has been reported that the quadruple therapy showed a higher rate of H. pylori eradication than the triple therapy39).…”

“…Four studies comparing the effectiveness of different treatment modalities for H. pylori infection in South Korean children all found that a bismuth-based triple therapy was more effective against H. pylori as the first-line of treatment than a PPI-based therapy ( Table 3 ) 36 , 37 , 38 , 39) . Other studies in South Korea have reported a decreasing tendency in the rate of H. pylori eradication by the administration of omeprazole with amoxicillin and clarithromycin, specifically a decrease from 81.0% between 1998 and 2000 37) , to 74.0% between 1999 and 2000 38) , and to 67.7% between 2004 and 2012 39) .
