Assessing the risk perception of workers can be very informative in predicting their behavioral outcomes, including task and contextual performance. Yet, research to assess the effect of risk perception on task performance and contextual performance remains scarce. Thus, this study explored the effect of risk perception of work-related musculoskeletal disorders on task and contextual performance in nurses. This study further examined safety behavior as a mediator of these relationships. Using structural equation modeling, the researchers examined these relationships by employing a cross-sectional survey with a quantitative approach. The data was collected via questionnaires from 382 nurses who work in three major hospitals in Accra Metropolis, Ghana. The results showed that nurses’ risk perception positively influenced their task and contextual performance, and that safety behavior partially mediated the effects of risk perception on task and contextual performance. This study offers a theoretical framework and empirical evidence for the concept of risk perception and its association with safety behavior, task, and contextual performance. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study to assess the relationships that exist among these variables. Thus, future studies are needed to verify the causality of the relationships.

Background: Mobile apps are used worldwide in nursing care, including during pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum.Objectives: The aim of this study was to determine the effect of a mobile health application developed for pregnant women according to the Roy adaptation model on postpartum adaptation.Methods: This was a single-center, two-arm parallel-group randomized controlled trial. The study was conducted from March 2021 to August 2021. A mobile application was developed and offered to women in the experimental group from the 32nd-34th gestational weeks to the sixth week postpartum. The Postpartum Self-Evaluation Questionnaire was administered to both experimental and control groups on the 10th day postpartum and in the sixth week postpartum. The generalized linear mixed-effects model and the least significant difference test were used to analyze the data. Results:The study sample consisted of 62 pregnant women. The mean scores from the total Postpartum Self-Evaluation Questionnaire and the subscales decreased statistically significantly in the 10th day postpartum and the sixth week postpartum in the experimental group compared to the control group ( p < .05). The mean scores from the confidence in the ability to cope with tasks of motherhood and satisfaction with motherhood and infant care subscales indicated a statistically significant difference in group-time interaction.Discussion: The results indicated that the mobile health application increased postpartum adaptation in women and effectively maintained adaptation until the sixth week postpartum. Use of mobile health applications may help provide practical, accessible, and quality prenatal and postpartum care.

Background. Radiographers’ role as healthcare workers places them at constant risk for hospital-acquired infections. Practical, evidence-based methods are necessary to reduce the transmission of pathogens to and from patients and healthcare workers. Objectives. The main objectives of this study were to determine knowledge, attitude, and practice levels regarding infection prevention and control (IPC) strategies among radiographers in Windhoek and Oshakati, and measure their relationships with other variables. Methods. A quantitative descriptive design was employed. To assess the knowledge, attitude, and practice levels among radiographers, a self-administered questionnaire was used. Twenty-seven radiographers took part in the study, producing a 68% response rate. Results. The study revealed that the majority of the radiographers showed an appropriate level of overall knowledge and attitude toward infection prevention and control. However, the majority of their practice levels were poor. Pearson rank correlation test revealed that the radiographers’ knowledge was significantly associated with attitudes (P= 0.004; r=0.53) and practices (P=0.03; r=-0.41) with a moderate positive and negative correlation, respectively. Conclusions. In conclusion, the study revealed that radiographers are knowledgeable about IPC strategies, and have good attitudes toward them. However, their practice was poor and inconsistent with the level of knowledge demonstrated. Therefore, it is recommended that healthcare service managers establish efficient and rigorous means of monitoring adherence to IPC strategies and improving practices to reduce incidences of health-acquired infections among radiographers, especially in the age of a pandemic.
