Effect of Novel Bioactive Glass-Containing Dentin Adhesive on the Permeability of Demineralized Dentin

Abstract: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of a novel bioactive glass (BAG)-containing dentin adhesive on the permeability of demineralized dentin. Bioactive glass (85% SiO2, 15% CaO) was fabricated using the sol-gel process, and two experimental dentin adhesives were prepared with 3 wt% silica (silica-containing dentin adhesive; SCA) or BAG (BAG-containing dentin adhesive; BCA). Micro-tensile bond strength (μTBS) test, fracture mode analysis, field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) analysis of adhes… Show more

“…In addition, the ∆DFF of those was higher than SNP group after two weeks of storage. The short-term effect of BAG on dentin permeability was also verified by Kim et al [12]. In their study, a BAG-containing dentin adhesive without an acidic functional monomer was used.…”

“…The reason was that the interface of the desensitizer-dentin was likely to deform or destruct during specimen preparation. Although this method has been used in other studies [12,14,46] and is also valid in this study, it still lacks clinical relevance. Cross-sectional interface analysis with hydraulic conductance should be necessary in a future study.…”

“…It also enhanced the tooth enamel remineralization process due to its bioactivity [ 187 ]. In other studies, bioactive glass-based adhesives were applied to demineralized dentin, and dentin was observed to remineralize successfully [ 188 , 189 , 190 ]. Sauro et al [ 191 ] probed the bonded-dentin interface healing response to applying pure Bioglass 45S5 and Zinc-polycarboxylated bioactive glass-based dental composite.…”
