Effect of Maternal Hydration on the Amniotic Fluid Volume During Maternal Rest in the Left Lateral Decubitus Position

Abstract: Maternal rest in the left lateral decubitus position with hydration and maternal rest in the left lateral decubitus position alone caused similar increases in the estimated amniotic fluid volume at 15 minutes. However, after 30 minutes, the amniotic fluid volume increased more rapidly in the group with hydration.

“…Although previous studies demonstrated that maternal rest in the left lateral decubitus position increased the fetal urine production rate and AFI secondary to the increased fetal urine production, they could not analyze the effect of alternative rest positions and the sole effect of rest. [1][2][3][4] In this study, we demonstrated that maternal rest in the right lateral position neither increased nor decreased the estimated AFV. Although the right lateral position caused a significant decrease in the AFI in group 1 during the second 15 minutes, it should be noted that the initial AFI level was increased at the end of the first 15 minutes after maternal rest in the left lateral position.…”

“…The primary outcome of the study was the effect of maternal rest in the left and right lateral decubitus positions. The left lateral position had increased the AFI in previous studies, [1][2][3][4] probably by increasing cardiac output and uterine perfusion. This study was designed to test the right lateral position as an alternative.…”

“…Gebenin sol lateral pozisyonda iken sağlanan maternal hidrasyonun amnion mayi miktarı üzerindeki etkisinin araştırıldığı bir araştırmada, yalnız sol yan pozisyonda yatmanın tek başına yeterli olmadığı, yatak istirahati ile beraber oral sıvı alımının olduğu grupta amnion mayi volümünün hızla arttığını ortaya koymuştur. Bu nedenle fetüsün optimal iyilik durumu açısından oligohidroamnios görülen gebelerin hospitalizasyonunun sağlanmasının daha yararlı olacağı düşünülmektedir (39) .…”
