Consensus Statements of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) provide the veterinary community with up-to-date information on the pathophysiology, diagnosis, and treatment of clinically important animal diseases. The ACVIM Board of Regents oversees selection of relevant topics, identification of panel members with the expertise to draft the statements, and other aspects of assuring the integrity of the process. The statements are derived from evidence-based medicine whenever possible and the panel offers interpretive comments when such evidence is inadequate or contradictory. A draft is prepared by the panel, followed by solicitation of input by the ACVIM membership which may be incorporated into the statement. It is then submitted to the Journal of Veterinary Internal Medicine, where it is edited prior to publication. The authors are solely responsible for the content of the statements. Paratuberculosis (Johne's disease) is a widespread and costly disease. This consensus statement will summarize recommendations regarding diagnosis, control, and treatment of Johne's disease in cattle and other species. Each section of recommendations is followed by a statement that subjectively characterizes the strength of the supporting evidence. The role played by Mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis (MAP) in the pathogenesis has been a matter of controversy for many years. “…En vue de diminuer l'excrétion fécale de Map, le lévamisole a été préconisé du fait de son effet immunomodulateur dans diverses affections : il agirait en restaurant la réaction immunitaire à médiation cellulaire par l'intermédiaire des cytokines de type 1 (Senturk et al 2009). Un essai a été effectué chez 38 vaches paratuberculeuses asymptomatiques et excrétrices âgées de quatre à huit ans : 19 ont été traitées par une dose de 2,5 mg/kg de poids vif une fois par jour pendant trois jours, puis une fois par semaine pendant huit semaines.…”

La paratuberculose des ruminants est une maladie due à Mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis (Map) et connue depuis longtemps, mais elle demeure toujours un problème pour les éleveurs. Cette affection digestive cachectisante est rencontrée principalement chez les ruminants adultes, domestiques et sauvages. Les échanges commerciaux ont favorisé l'installation progressive de cette infection dans des régions considérées auparavant comme indemnes. L'une des causes principales de transmission de Map est la contamination de l'environnement due à l'excrétion fécale de cette bactérie, surtout par les vaches adultes, en particulier les vaches diarrhéiques et les vaches asymptomatiques et super-excrétrices. Ce sont surtout ces animaux qui doivent faire l'objet des mesures de contrôle, et une surveillance continue est nécessaire pour détecter les animaux nouvellement infectés dans le troupeau. Cette revue concerne la survie de Map dans l'environnement et les facteurs de transmission, ainsi que l'amélioration des moyens de diagnostic et de contrôle de la paratuberculose. L'hypothèse d'un risque zoonotique lié à Map est également considérée du fait de sa présence dans le lait et la viande.
