“…The “half-leaf” method is a recently reported protocol for screening ε-PL-producing actinomycete strains ( Chen X. et al, 2019 ). The principle underlying this method is that ε-PL demonstrates an obvious protective and curative activity against Tobacco mosaic virus (TMV).…”

“…To further improve the efficiency of ε-PL purification, cation ion-exchange resin (IRC-50) with NH 4 + has been suggested to offer the highest adsorption capability and desorption ratio for ε-PL extraction, and ε-PL purity was enhanced from 90.2 to 97.10% under optimal conditions ( Chen J. et al, 2019 ). Furthermore, another method combing ion-exchange resin (Amberlite IRC-50), macroporous adsorption resin (SX-8), and gel column chromatography (Sephadex G-25) can also extract ε-PL from the culture broth successfully ( Chen X. et al, 2019 ).…”

“…The 3-PL purity was improved to 97.10% with a recovery ratio of 66.01%. 10 Thus, the developed scheme based on an ion-exchange operation could achieve 3-PL purication from a fermentation broth with a high purity and acceptable recovery ratio. However, these bioseparation processes are complicated, and a large volume of saline wastewater is produced during the ion-exchange operation, increasing the economic and environmental problems.…”

“…A relatively high degree of affinity exists for the earth alkaline metal ions. CCEs are used primarily for the removal of cations from basic solutions (dealkalization, softening of high salinity waters), for the splitting of weakly alkaline salts of polyvalent cations, and also for the isolation and purification of biochemicals such as antibiotics, vitamins, alkaloids, and enzymes [ 51 , 52 , 53 , 54 , 55 ]. The use of CCEs for reducing the volume of radioactive waste generated in nuclear power plants was also considered [ 56 , 57 ].…”
