Effect of intraoperative aberrometry on the rate of postoperative enhancement: Retrospective study

Abstract: The use of intraoperative wavefront aberrometry to measure and enhance the effect of LRIs produced a nonsignificant trend that led to a 5.7-fold reduction in the odds ratio of subsequent excimer laser enhancement.

“…This can be achieved using intraoperative wavefront aberrometry or eye-tracking technology. 14,25 Regarding the defocus curve, we found a V-shaped curve with 2 peaks at 0.0 D and À2. Multifocal IOLs split the available light between the distance focus and near focus.…”

“…Although the developers of the ORA Talbot–Moiré interferometry intraoperative device (WaveTec Vision, USA) claim excellent refractive outcomes,3 6 no data on the intraoperative formulae, measurement failure and reproducibility have been reported or independently validated. Furthermore, Ianchulev et al used pooled results from 66 different investigators, including fellow eyes and a range of differing IOL designs, which makes analysis and generalisation very difficult 3.…”

“…In addition, intraoperative aberrometry now allows measurement during surgery to increase accuracy by taking into account not only the posterior corneal contribution but also the individual effect of surgically induced astigmatism in each particular eye [6].…”
