Effect of intradialytic exercise on fatigue, electrolytes level and blood pressure in hemodialysis patients: A randomized controlled trial

Abstract: Background: Hemodialysis is a physically stressful procedure and most of the patients will have fatigue and thereby an alteration in the electrolytes, hemoglobin level. Physical Exercises provided during Hemodialysis session do not cost patients extra time and will be effective in reducing fatigue level and enhancing potential for performing their activities of daily living & may increase the waste removal. Objective: This study was conducted to determine the impact of an eight-week Intradialytic Range of Moti… Show more

“…In addition, no significant relation was found between fatigue level and marital status of the hemodialysis geriatric patients in this study. This result supports those of Soliman (2015). Moreover, the present study showed a significant relation between fatigue level and occupation before retirement.…”

“…Using inclusion and exclusion criteria, the eligible participants were 76 geriatric patients. The sample size was calculated using DSS sample calculator using the following parameters: Alpha error = 0.05, Beta error = 0.20, the first proportion 15% and the second proportion 45% (Maniam et al, 2014;Soliman, 2015;Hassanpour & Jalali, 2016). Based on these parameters the required sample size in the proposed study was 56 geriatric patients.…”

“…This is also in line with other studies that hypertension exercise can reduce BP in the elderly and hypertension exercise can be used as one of the independent interventions to the lower BP [12], [13]. This research is that supports this research is the other studies The intradialitic exercise can reduce systolic BP with p-value of 0.002 and can reduce diastolic BP in patients undergoing hemodialysis with p-value of 0.014 [15], [16], [17].…”

“…Exercise, as a therapeutic tool can potentially be effective in preventing and improving muscle weakness and improving physical function and the health‐related quality of life in patients undergoing HD [14,20]. The results of various studies show that PA improves the complications of dialysis in these patients, including regulation of some laboratory parameters such as potassium, phosphate, calcium, urea and creatinine, hemoglobin, and blood pressure [21,22].…”
