Effect of Indigofera leaves as a subtitute for soybean meal in laying quail (Coturnix-coturnix japonica) ration on egg production, feed conversion ratio, and yolk color score

Abstract: Indigofera leaves is one of alternative feed that can be used in quail rations. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of Indigofera leaves a substitute for soybean meal in quail rations. The material used were 100 female quails aged 56 weeks, yellow corn, rice bran, laying hens concentrate, soybean meal, and Indigofera leaves. This research used a completely randomized design with four treatments and five replications. The treatments applied were T0 (control), T1 (rations containing 4% Indigofera leav… Show more

“…At the time of the study, the temperature was extremely high for laying quail, causing the birds favour to consume more water rather than diet. Therefore, feed intake was lower than the results of Has et al [21] who found about 21 g/head/d. In fact that daily egg production was severely reduced in all groups, and it is lower than reported by Cepuliene et al [22].…”

“…It was indicated that the more addition of lower grade tobacco contained more beta-carotene and other phenolic compounds may affect the yolk colour. Carotenoid concentration in the egg yolk was representatively the rations consumed by the quail [23]. Beta-carotene and phenolic compounds were antioxidant components found in the tobacco leaves which reduced oxidative stress on quail maintenance in a tropical environment [16,17].…”

“…Kamaruddin et al (2021) reported that the addition of Indigofera zollingeriana leaf meal up to 10% increased the protein digestion of quail. It has also been reported that Indigofera zollingeriana can be included in a diet up to 20% without deleterious effects on performance and egg quality of quail (Purwanti et al, 2020;Has et al, 2021). Sarmad et al (2020) reported that the addition of rosemary powder up to 2.5% increased the performance of quail.…”
