Effect of São Pedro do Sul thermal water on skin irritation

Abstract: Many mineral waters are known for centuries for treating dermatological diseases but there is little scientific evaluation of the effects of these waters in skin. A total of 17 healthy Caucasian volunteers, including men and women, were enrolled in this study. Two skin sites were marked on each volunteer forearm and irritated with sodium lauryl sulphate at 2% (w/v) kept under occlusion for 24 h with Finn chambers. “…Neutrophil infiltration, which actively contributes to the wound healing processes, was also promoted by this bacterium through the production of TNF-α (95). It has long been known that the healing of skin irritations and skin lesions can be boosted by topical applications of spring waters where a rich presence of non-pathogenic microflora is established (96100). In recent years, research programs have been developed to investigate the biological contents of spring waters, and their anti-inflammatory and immune protective roles.…”
