Sci., 63, 17-23.The experiment was aimed at confirming that silages made of two very similar hybrids could have different in vivo digestibility, primarily amylase-treated neutral detergent fibre digestibility (aNDFD), which could strongly influence the result of the calculation of energy value of fodder. Both the stay-green whole-plant types were grown at the same locality during two years and harvested at the same days at two-thirds milk line maturity. In the two subsequent years, silages without preservatives were made of both hybrids tested. All silages were fermented for 90 days. The in vivo digestibility of silages was measured in digestion trials with six sheep. All silages had good fermentation quality, and no differences in that regard were found between hybrids or years (P > 0.05). Hybrid had stronger effect than year on all indicators of chemical composition and digestibility of nutrients other than dry matter (DM). Hybrid significantly affected all indicators measuring chemical composition and digestibility of nutrients other than DM (P = 0.18). The aNDFD was closely correlated with all other measures of nutrients digestibility (P < 0.01). The results confirm the importance of breeding hybrids and analyzing silages for aNDFD.

ResumoO experimento foi conduzido no Núcleo de Produção Animal (NUPRAN) da Universidade Estadual do Centro Oeste (UNICENTRO), com o objetivo de avaliar o efeito da colheita da planta de milho em diferentes estádios reprodutivos e com diferentes processamentos de grãos sobre a digestibilidade da matéria seca, digestibilidade da fibra em detergente neutro e desempenho animal. O delineamento experimental foi inteiramente casualizado, composto por 4 tratamentos com 4 repetições, onde cada repetição constou de uma baia contendo dois novilhos, totalizando 16 unidades experimentais. Durante a confecção da silagem, foram coletadas amostras homogêneas e representativas das plantas picadas, parte destinada a análise bromatológica antes de sofrer fermentação e outra parte foi inserida em silos "bags", acomodando estes no perfil de cada silo, sendo considerados como unidades experimentais. O experimento teve duração de 84 dias após abertura dos silos, sendo 14 dias para adaptação dos animais, seguidos de 4 períodos de 21 dias. Assim, silagens colhidas em estádio de grão pastoso apresentaram melhores valores de digestibilidade in vitro da matéria seca e digestibilidade da fibra em detergente neutro. A utilização da silagem de milho colhida em estádio R5 possibilitou maior desempenho animal com consequente melhor transformação da matéria seca consumida em ganho de peso diário. The in situ dry matter (DM) disappearance of corn silages in two maturity stages (milk grain and half milk line) of known in vivo and in vitro digestibility was determined, with the main purpose of comparing digestibility values with the ruminal disappearance at 24 and 48h of incubation. A secondary goal was the description of their ruminal digestion kinetics, from which the effective degradability was calculated at an assumed passage rate of 4%/h. Data of in vivo, in vitro and in situ degradability at 24 and 48-h were analyzed with a linear model that included as fixed effects the maturity and the methodology of evaluation, and the kinetic data were described by the exponential model of McDonald. There was a significant effect (P<0.05) of methodology in the estimation of digestibility, but not of maturity or interaction maturity × methodology. The in vivo digestibility (52.9%) was not different from the 24-h in situ degradability (55.6%) with numerical values in the range of the effective degradability. The in vitro digestibility (61.6%) was not different from the 48-h in situ degradability (61.9%), being both estimates higher than the in vivo digestibility. The 24-h in situ degradability was a closer estimator of the in vivo digestibility and the 48-h in situ degradability and the in vitro digestibility overestimated the in vivo parameter by 15-20%.
