The sensitive detection of harmful gases, in particular nitrogen dioxide, is very important for our health and environment protection. Therefore, many papers on sensor materials used for NO2 detection have been published in recent years. Materials based on graphene and reduced graphene oxide deserve special attention, as they exhibit excellent sensor properties compared to the other materials. In this paper, we present the most recent advances in rGO hybrid materials developed for NO2 detection. We discuss their properties and, in particular, the mechanism of their interaction with NO2. We also present current problems occuring in this field.

In this work, a selective and highly sensitive gas sensor using tungsten oxide (WO 3 ) nanofibers was fabricated via electrospinning. WO 3 was functionalized with gold nanoparticles by magnetron sputtering at different sputtering times to obtain Au films with thicknesses of 1, 5, 10, and 15 nm. The sensing performance of Au film composite nanomaterials with different Au layer thicknesses was tested at 100−250 °C and different nitrogen dioxide (NO 2 ) concentrations ranging from 200 to 1000 ppb. The findings showed that the 10 nm Au−WO 3 composite nanomaterial sensor had the most significant improvement in the performance of the pristine WO 3 sensor compared with other Au−WO 3 composite nanomaterial sensors, and the optimal operating temperature of the sensor was 175 °C. The composite nanomaterial sensor exhibited excellent selectivity when exposed to different gases and also exhibited high sensibility when exposed to low concentrations of NO 2 under high humidity (80%). The mechanism of gas sensor performance improvement was also investigated.

In the present investigation, p-NiO has been deposited on n-Si (100) substrate by the spray pyrolysis method. The effect of the distance between the substrate and the nozzle on the structural, photoluminescence, and detection properties has been well inspected. XRD analysis proved the polycrystalline system with a cubic structure for NiO. The elemental analysis con rmed the existence of Ni, O, and Si materials without any impurities. The FESEM analysis showed nano and micro particles distributed on the Si layer, the micro particles have porous like structures which play a signi cant role as photons guider. The photoluminescence measurement depicted three main peaks at the UV and visible regions of the electromagnetic spectrum which are related to near band edge emission and defects within the crystal, respectively. I-V characteristics revealed good conductivity under UV illumination, and the highest current was recorded by a sample when the distance between the nozzle and the substrate is 25 cm. The responsivity elucidated a high value at UV region with 6.5 mA/W, and the current-time properties demonstrated good reproducibility, high stability and photoresponse, and rapid response and recovery times of 0.375 and 0.791 s, respectively at a lower bias voltage of 1.5 Volt under UV photons source.
