Background. Thailand is a tropical developing country which has a serious increase in health risk due to hot weather exposure among outdoor workers. Objectives. The aims of this study were to compare the factors related to environmental heat exposure in three different seasons, and to assess the relationship between environmental heat and dehydration status in each season among farmworkers in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand. Methods. A semi-longitudinal study was carried out in 22 male farmworkers throughout a year of farming. The primary data were collected in farmworkers for socio-demographic information, clinical assessments, and heat-related illnesses. Results. Average of environmental heat index (Median, SD) were severe in summer (WBGT=38.1, 2.8°C), rainy season (WBGT=36.1, 2.1°C), and winter (WBGT=31.5, 2.7°C). Average urine Sp. Gr. in summer, rainy season, and winter were 1.022, 1.020, and 1.018 respectively. The third sentence should be corrected as follows: The Friedman analysis revealed a statistically significant difference between the three different seasons in WBGT (wet bulb globe temperature), body temperature, heart rate (P<0.01), and respiratory rate (P<0.05). There was a statistically significant difference between the three different seasons for skin rash/itching, dizziness, muscle cramp dyspnea (P<0.05), and weakness (P<0.01). Wilcoxon signed-ranks analysis found a significant difference in the medians of the paired sets of urine Sp. Gr. values between baseline and summer (P<0.05). Spearman's rank correlation coefficient did not find a relationship between WBGT and urine Sp. Gr. in the three different seasons. Conclusions. This study demonstrated that farmworkers had exposure to environmental heat stress which was expressed through physical changes. Therefore, there is a need for either interventions or guidelines to prevent dehydration for outdoor workers in this region.

Background: Sewage treatment plants are associated with various health hazards. Aim: this study aimed to assess health awareness regarding occupational hazards among workers in sewage treatment plant. Research design: descriptive research design was used. Setting: the study was conducted at the Belqas Sewage Treatment Plant in Shoubra District. Sampling: a convenience sample was used and 100 workers were included in the study. Tools of data collection: two tools were used, first tool: a structured interviewing questionnaire about socio-demographic characteristic, previous medical and surgical history, health status of workers and knowledge of workers about work environment, occupational hazards, methods of prevention and first aid. Second tool: performance sheet about safety measures and first aid. Result: revealed that 89% of workers had total poor level of knowledge, 3% of them had good level of knowledge and 8%of them had average level of knowledge . Also,90% of workers had total unsatisfactory performance. Conclusion: there was a strong statistically significant relation between the total knowledge score and the total performance score (P<0.005**). Recommendations: regular implementation of health education &training programs for workers about environmental safety, health hazards and problems related to sewage treatment plant and first aid. Proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment.

The prolonged manifestation of workers working in warm and moist atmospheric conditions results in their decreased labour work productivity, excessive sweating, and heat stress. Flexible and comfortable cooling vests are an appropriate solution to enhance labour work productivity. The study aims to determine the cooling efficiency of the material. A model is developed work on the principle of indirect evaporative cooling (IDEC) provides cooled air without adding humidity i.e. latent heat of vaporization is transferred to working air, which makes more doable over the direct evaporative cooling (DEC). The performance of three different hygroscopic materials is evaluated on the base of the following parameters including ambient air temperature, primary and secondary air temperature, and relative humidity. This study shows that aspen pads have proven to be the most appropriate hygroscopic material in achieving a minimum temperature difference of 7° at ambient temperature and relative humidity.
