Effect of exercise and lactic acid infusion on individual free fatty acids of plasma

Abstract: The effect of exercise and lactic acid infusion was studied in nonanesthetized dogs. Both procedures decreased the plasma free fatty acid level (FFA) as well as the concentration of the major individual fatty acids (palmitic, palmitoleic, stearic, oleic, and linoleic acids) of FFA. The percentage contribution of oleic and frequently of linoleic acid to the total FFA was also diminished after exercise or lactic acid infusion. Similar alterations in FFA were also observed due to Nembutal or morphine-chloralose a… Show more

“…It has been recognized for many years that lactate inhibits lipolysis both in vivo and in vitro [22][23][24][25]. One can speculate that the decrease in GPR81 expression in adipose tissue could reduce the ability of lactate to inhibit lipolysis and thereby facilitate adipose tissue lipolysis.…”

“…That lactate inhibits lipolysis was originally reported in 1963 [56]. Lactate infusion in humans attenuated the increase of blood free fatty acids (FFA) and glycerol during exercise [56,57].…”
