Effect of enamel surface modification by novel aqueous phosphate-type fluoride surfactants

Abstract: Three novel aqueous fluoride surfactants (F4, F6, and F8) and a positive control (10F2S-3I) were applied to bovine enamel and the surface free energy was calculated by measuring the surface contact angles of three liquids: distilled water, α-bromonaphthalene and diiodomethane. The specimens were stored in water for 90 days, and then immersed in acetic acid/sodium acetate. The modified specimens recorded higher contact angles and lower surface free energy immediately after treatment than the control (p<0.05). L… Show more

“…Previously, we attempted to develop a tooth surface adulterant that reduces the SFEs of tooth and dental material surfaces, while offering acid resistance and prevention of adhesion, plaque generation, and deliming of the dentin. The adulterant was intended to prevent caries and gum disease (38). In the present study, however, viable bacterial counts changed when the SFE was less than 50 mN/m, regardless of the material used.…”

“…Cairan ekstrak diambil dari tiap tabung menggunakan small brush dan dioleskan ke permukaan resin komposit dan dibiarkan kering pada suhu ruang. 8 Prosedur pelapisan dan pengukuran sudut kontak diulangi sebanyak 3 kali untuk masing-masing sampel. Spesimen yang digunakan sebagai kontrol adalah spesimen yang tidak dilapisi dengan larutan ekstrak.…”

“…We have also studied their application for caries prevention and periodontal disease through the suppression of adhesion and plaque formation and decalcification of dentine. [10][11][12][13] Because the Japanese population is aging, development of an advanced surface modifier that not only prevents the adhesion and accumulation of plaque but also has antimicrobial activity is of urgent importance to actively kill the adhered microorganisms for the prevention of systemic complications. Quaternary ammonium salts, a class of commercially available antimicrobial agents sometimes referred to as invert soaps, display potent bactericidal and disinfecting effects with minimal irritation and low toxicity, and they are promising antimicrobial compounds because of their improved safety.…”
