Effect of dynamic and static strength training on hormonal activity in elite boxers

Abstract: Background: The aim of this study was to determine hormonal responses to acute and chronic exposure to static and dynamic strength training programs using resistance bands in boxers. Material and methods: 19 male national boxers participated in the study. Boxers were instructed to perform strength exercises with resistance bands for 3 days a week for 8 weeks involving either dynamic (n=10) or static (n=9) resistance exercises. Blood samples were taken before exercise, immediately after the initial exercise ses… Show more

“…Another hypothesis considers the decrease in sympathetic discharge in the post-exercise period 42 , 43 . Studies using strength training in hypertensive patients have reported a reduction in adrenaline levels 44 , and blood glucose and LDL levels 24 . However, these studies used different training protocols, with varied load intensity.…”

“…[ 25 ] In addition, the effect of exercise on corticosterone is dependent on the intensity of exercise and intense anaerobic exercise even suppresses the cortisol response, which may be due to the inhibitory effect of high hydrogen concentrations on adrenal function. [ 26 ] Therefore, the high intensity of exercise training in the present study may be another factor in increasing or not decreasing serum corticosterone levels. However, comparative studies are needed on both the possibility of force exercise and its intensity on stress response for more clarifications.…”
