Effect of dye concentration on the optical properties of red-BS dye-doped PVA film

Abstract: In this experimental study, the effect of dye concentration on the optical properties of red-BS dyedoped polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) thin films is investigated. Three thin film samples with different concentration of red-BS dye were prepared by spin-coating method on the glass substrate. Using transmission and reflection spectrum of films, their optical parameter such as refractive index, absorption coefficient, and dielectric function are extracted and the effect of dye impurity on theses parameters has been stud… Show more

“…Light weight, reprocessability and low density are common features of the polymer matrices of concern. In addition, the optical properties of polymers, copolymers, polymer blends and polymer composites have received considerable attention resulting in increased understanding of their structures and the possible applications in various optical devices and industrial applications [1,2].…”

“…This polymer film casting was used because it allows one to obtain surface films of controlled and uniform thickness on the entire metal mirror surface [7]. The spin coating technique [30][31][32][33] or the dip coating technique [34,35] commonly used to obtain thin surface films can induce a certain orientation of the polymer chain during the casting of the polymer film.…”

“…The value of optical band-gap is the intersection of this straight line on x-axis [25]. The using of equation (1) to determine the band-gap of polymer films is still debatable, but it is necessary to be used such as in other reports [26][27][28][29]. In molecular system, the band-gap correlates to energy between the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) and the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) which is attributed to the absorbance properties of materials.…”
