(Diptera: Muscidae) RESUMO -Este trabalho teve como objetivo verificar o efeito de concentrações sub-letais do regulador de desenvolvimento de insetos (IGR), diflubenzurom, no tamanho e na estabilidade do desenvolvimento da mosca-dos-chifres, Haematobia irritans (L.), por meio da análise de assimetria flutuante (AF). Adultos criados em substratos com diferentes concentrações sub-letais de diflubenzurom e em meioscontrole foram submetidos a medidas morfométricas. Utilizou-se a análise de componentes principais para se obter um índice multivariado de tamanho, a partir de uma matriz de correlação dos caracteres originais. Os níveis de AF e o índice multivariado de tamanho foram comparados entre os tratamentos. Contrariamente ao esperado, a exposição ao diflubenzurom não resultou em aumento significativo e proporcional às concentrações utilizadas nos níveis de AF entre os tratamentos. Entretanto, a redução no tamanho devido ao efeito deste IGR pode estar refletindo a capacidade de H. irritans de realizar ajustes fisiológicos e morfológicos, de modo que os fenótipos compensem, pelo menos até certo ponto, as condições ambientais de estresse. Há ainda a possibilidade de o IGR estar selecionando indivíduos mais simétricos e resistentes. Do ponto de vista do controle de pragas, a redução no tamanho de indivíduos submetidos a concentrações sub-letais deste IGR pode ser vantajosa, uma vez que tamanho está usualmente diretamente relacionado à aptidão do indivíduo. PALAVRAS-CHAVE: Insecta, controle de pragas, mosca-dos-chifres, regulador de crescimento, assimetria flutuante ABSTRACT -This study aimed to assess the effect of sub-lethal concentrations of the insect growth regulator (IGR), diflubenzuron, on the body size of the horn fly Haematobia irritans (L.) and on its developmental stability, by fluctuating asymmetry (FA) analysis. Breeding media with different sublethal diflubenzuron concentrations and a control medium, were prepared to obtain morphometric measures on adult individuals. Principal component analysis was used to generate an index of general body size, using the correlation matrix of the original characters. Levels of FA and the multivariate index of size were compared among treatments. Contrary to the expectations, the exposure to diflubenzuron did not result in a significant and concomitant increase in the level of FA across treatments or in the number of individuals showing developmental instability. Nevertheless, a significant reduction of size due to the diflubenzuron may reflect the ability of H. irritans to perform physiological and morphological adjustments allowing phenotype compensation, at least to some extent, for stressful environmental conditions. On the other hand, the IGR may be selecting more symmetrical and resistant individuals. From the pest control point of view, the reduction of size may be a positive effect of the IGR since size is usually directly related to fitness.

Haematobia irritans é uma mosca de grande importância na pecuária bovina. É responsável por causar estresse crônico ao rebanho causando desconforto e levando a redução da produção de carne e leite e depreciação do couro. Também são responsáveis por transmitir vírus, bactéria e facilitar ao desenvolvimento de míiases. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a eficácia de um produto ectoparasiticida contendo a associação de cipermetrina, clorpirifós, butóxido de pireronila e fluazuron na formulação "pour on" no controle da mosca H. irritans em bovinos naturalmente infestados. Foram utilizados 30 bovinos, mestiços, sem distinção de sexo ou idade. Todos os animais incluídos no estudo apresentaram pelo menos 50 moscas adultas de H. irritans de ocorrência natural. Os animais do grupo tratado foram medicados com a associação de cipermetrina (5 mg/kg), clorpirifós (7 mg/kg), butóxido de pireronila (5 mg/kg) e fluazuron (2,5 mg/kg), na dose de 1 mL para cada 10 quilos de peso vivo, pela via tópica ("pour on") em dose única. A eficácia mosquicida foi avaliada um, três, sete, 14 e 21 dias após o tratamento, a partir da contagem de moscas adultas sobre os animais dos dois os grupos. A eficácia da associação testada neste estudo foi de 98,65%; 96,69%; 92,01%; 87,79% e 76,43% nos dias +1, +3, +7, +14 e +21 respectivamente. A associação de cipermetrina, clorpirifós, butóxido de piperonila e fluazuron na formulação "pour on" é eficaz no controle de H. irritans em bovinos naturalmente infestados.Palavras-chave: controle, mosca do chifre, piretróide, organofosforado. AbstractHaematobia irritans is a fly of great importance in cattle breeding. It is responsible for causing chronic stress due to discomfort and leading to reduced meat and milk production and depreciation of leather. They are also responsible for transmitting viruses, bacteria and facilitating the development of myiasis. The objective of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of a product ectoparasiticide containing a association of cypermethrin, chlorpyrifos, butoxide pireronila and fluazuron in formulating "pour on" the fly control H. irritans in cattle naturally infested. Were used thirty crossbred cattle, regardless of sex or age. All animals included in the study had at least 50 naturally occurring adult H. irritans flies. The animals in the treated group were medicated with the combination of cypermethrin (5 mg/kg), chlorpyrifos (7 mg/kg), pireronyl butoxide (5 mg/kg) and fluazuron (2.5 mg/kg) at a dose of 1 mL for every 10 kg live weight, "pour on" in single-dose. Diflubenzuron (DFB) is used to control ectoparasitic infestation by inhibiting larvae development in the manure and feces of treated animals. It is also currently been used to control tick infestations. In this study, milk and tissues from cattle treated orally with DFB for a 77-120 day period with a commercial product containing the compound were analyzed for the presence of residues. DFB residues were determined by using extraction with acetonitrile, cleanup with C18 SPE and chromatographic analysis by HPLC with UV detection (254nm).
