Effect of Different Mordants on Cotton Cloth Dyed with Aspergillus and Penicillium Dyes

Abstract: Natural dyes are an important alternative to potentially harmful synthetic dyes. This research was conducted using three kinds of Aspergillus dyes and six kinds of Penicillium dyes. In this study, Aspergillus and Penicillium were grown in mineral salts glucose medium. Premordanting technique was followed using different mordants, namely alum, CaCO3, CuSO4 5H2O, FeSO4 7H2O, K2Cr2O7 and MnSO4 H2O on cotton cloth. The colour of filtrate and range of colours developed on dyed materials were measured by RHS colour … Show more

“…5,6,7,& 8). The results are in accordance with our previous study (Suciatmih and Hidayat, 2017) on cotton cloth dyed with the dyes from each fungus such as Aspergillus sp. strain 1 and 2; and Penicillium sp strain 1, 3a, 3b, and 720 combined with different mordants (alum, CaCO3, and FeSO4.7H2O and control).…”

“…The characteristics of color shadings on the cloth depend on the mordants type used during the dyeing proc ess (Suciatmih and Hidayat, 2017). The different C and N sources, and culture conditions, such as different incubation temperatures and pH with different mordants generated various colors on the cloth (Tab.…”

“…Single dyes source added with different mordant types produced different colors and tones on the dyed cloth (Sangeetha et el. 2015;Suciatmih & Hidayat 2017;Suciatmih et al 2019;Suciatmih 2020). Rohandi and Listian (2015) stated that the paint quality was determined by selecting components, such as appropriate adhesives and additives.…”
