The developments in Norwegian sheep breeding since the early 1990s are reviewed. For the largest breeding population, the Norwegian White Sheep, results are presented for both genetic and phenotypic changes. Of the nine traits that make up the aggregate genotype, the largest gain per year, in per cent of the corresponding phenotypic average, was found for carcass grade (1.66%) and carcass weight (0.99%), number of lambs born at 1, 2 and 3 years of age (0.32% to 0.60%) and the maternal effect on weaning weight (0.26%). For fat grade, a genetic deterioration was estimated. This may be due to the too small weighting of this trait in the aggregate genotype and the true genetic parameters being somewhat different from the estimates in the prediction of breeding values. For lamb as well as ewe fleece weight, genetic change was close to zerointerpreted as mainly a correlated response to other traits in the aggregate genotype. Data for the two traits of fleece weight were, respectively, selected and few. Thus, phenotypic change was calculated for all traits except for fleece weight, and in addition for number of lambs at weaning, being indirectly selected for through number of lambs born. For all traits, with the exception of fat grade, advantageous phenotypic change was estimated. For weaning and carcass weight, the phenotypic change was less than the genetic change, while the opposite was observed for carcass and fat grade and number of lambs born. The latter traits can be more easily controlled by environmental actions, and the results thus exemplify the interdependency between environmental and genetic change.

ResumenEl objetivo del presente estudio fue evaluar la cualidad espermática del semen refrigerado de carneros, en cajas térmicas con diferentes temperaturas. Fueron utilizados 6 eyaculados, de 2 carneros colectado con vagina artificial. En el semen se analizó volumen, movimiento en masa, motilidad, vigor, concentración espermática, test hipo-osmótico y coloración supra-vital. Las muestras fueron divididas en 2 alícuotas y diluidas en solución NaCl 0,9% o en un medio (Botubov ® , Botupharma, Botucatu, SP, Brasil); después, la dilución fue mantenida a temperatura ambiente, nevera (5ºC), caja Botubox ® (15ºC, Botupharma, Botucatu, SP, Brasil), caja Botutainer ® (5ºC, Botupharma, Botucatu, SP, Brasil) y caja MaxSemen ® (15ºC, EHG Agrofarma, Campinas, SP, Brasil). Todas las muestras fueron analizadas cada 24 horas, siguiendo los mismos parámetros. De acuerdo con los resultados, las muestras mantenidas en el diluyente presentaron viabilidad hasta 48 horas de refrigeración en las cajas térmicas y en la nevera, y la motilidad se mantuvo entorno de 30% hasta las 72 horas. Las muestras diluidas en solución NaCl 0,9% conservaron la motilidad en 30% hasta las 24 horas de refrigeración. Basado en los resultados se concluye que las tres cajas pueden ser utilizadas para transporte de semen ovino, diluido y refrigerado por un período de 24 a 48 horas.Palabras clave: carnero, crio-preservación, espermatozoide. AbstractThe aim of this study was to evaluate the ovine sperm quality colled in thermal boxs. Six ejaculates from 2 rams were collected using artificial vagina. Samples were analyzed to volume, mass movement, motility, vigor, sperm cell concentration, hypo-osmotic swelling test and supravital stain. Ejaculates were divided into 2 aliquots and diluted in 0.9% NaCl or in the extender (Botubov ® , Botupharma, Botucatu, SP, Brazil), and was kept at room temperature, refrigerator (5°C), Botubox ® (15°C, Botupharma, Botucatu, SP, Brazil), Botutainer ® (5ºC, Botupharma, Botucatu, SP, Brazil) and MaxSemen ® (15°C, EHG Agrofarma, Campinas, SP, Brazil). All samples were analyzed each 24 hours to the same parameters. According to the results the samples diluted and cooled in extender preserved sperm viability until 48 hours in thermal boxes and in refrigerator; and the samples extended preserved in environment maintained motility 30% up to 72 hours. Samples diluted in 0.9% saline retained motility around 30% until 24 hours of cooling. Low Temperature Detection System on cow cement flask base on RTD-coil coupled by transducer 4-WCB has been made. Four kinds of sensor was prepared, that's are coils from copper material with diameter 1 mm and set number of winding from 200 up to 500. Four-WCB circuit was chosen as transducer to facilitate the output voltage and to avoid the self heating on a wire directly connected with sensor. Liquid nitrogen is used as medium which its temperature will be measured. Temperature of medium was varied from -130C up to 0C. Collecting data was done on temperature and output voltage and output voltage was taken on each rising temperature of medium. Data temperature-voltage was analyzed by curve fitting according to quadratic polynomial y = ax 2 +bx+c. Sensitivity level of sensor was determined from slope of graphics, whereas the level of stability of sensor was determined from standard deviation. From plot of temperature -voltage data, it is known that all of sensors consistently tend to follow polynomial orde-2 form. It is found that sensor with the number of windings 400 is the most sensitive, but less stable compared with sensor 200 windings. Equation for potential (V) as function of temperature (T) concerning with sensor 400 windings is V = -0.00003T 2 + 0.32T + 77.09. This sensor has sensitivity and stability levels are 0,32 mV/C and R 2 = 0,99 respectively.
