Effect of Dietary Growth Promoter Supplementations on the Serum Biochemistry and Morphometric Characteristics of Tibia Bone in Broiler Chicken

Abstract: Bone mineralization is considered an essential source of minerals for metabolic needs that provide strength and hardness to the bone tissues and in birds its development can be enhanced by the use of dietary supplements. The present study was executed to evaluate the influence of prebiotic, probiotic and antibiotic on the morphometric aspects of tibia bone in broilers. One-hundred and sixty-one-day-old broiler chick were divided randomly into four groups (n=40) with 4 replicates (n=10 in each replicate). Group… Show more

“…The results of the current research are similar to those reported by [41]; no significant differences in tibia-breaking strength were observed in broilers fed 50 mg/kg of thyme essential oil, rosemary, or French lavender alone or in combinations at a level of 25 mg/kg. While these data contradict the findings of [42], who showed a significant increase in the tibia weight and tibia length of broilers in the diet containing the phytogenic compound (thyme cm/liter of water) compared to treatment groups with (1cm/ litter of water and 1cm /15 litter) and to controls. The results of the present study also differ from those of [43], who found that birds fed 0.1% probiotic (lactobacillus) had significantly higher tibia weight, tibia length, tibiotarsal index, tibia weight/tibia length index, and robusticity, but no significant differences in bone ash % or diaphysis diameter compared to controls.…”

“…The Robusticity index shows the bone fracture strength. If the Robusticity index is high, bone density is low, and therefore the bone becomes fragile (Javid et al., 2022 ). In our study, the tibia Robusticity index was higher in the slow‐growing broilers during the completely fattening period ( p < 0.001, Table 4 ).…”

“…The Seedor index, known as the ratio of bone weight to bone length, is an indicator of bone density (Javid et al., 2022 ). The Seedor index of the tibia was high in fast‐growing broilers during all weeks of fattening ( p < 0.001).…”

“…The estimated number of commercial chickens in the country in 2017 was 1,022 million birds, producing 17,083 million eggs and 1,270,000 tons of meat while directly and indirectly employing over 1.7 million people (Directorate of Poultry Research Institute, Performance Report 2014-2017. Demand for poultry meat has increased substantially over the past several decades because of the growing population and greater per-capita consumption (Abbas et al, 2020;Abbas et al, 2022;Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, 2023). The poultry industry is the backbone of the economy contributing 50% of the total meat consumption in the country (Abbas, 2020;Chaudhary et al, 2015).…”

“…Probiotics, probiotics, prebiotics, and their combination as feed additives will pave the way for secure poultry production with financial rewards for farmers and improvements to public health (Ferdous et al, 2019;Abbas et al, 2018;Javid et al, 2022). According to a study, the herbs operate as a secure and reliable antiviral medication (Hour et al, 2013;.…”
