Effect of Dehydration in the Presence and Absence of the Angiotensin Receptor Blocker Losartan on Blood Constituents in the Camel

Abstract: water restriction, serum levels of gamma glutamyl transferase were significantly (p<0.01) lower in the losartan group compared to controls. Conclusion: The results of our experiment show that dehydration alone or in combination with Angiotensin II receptor blocker has major effects on the biochemical and hematological parameters of the camel blood.

“…Liver function tests including aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) were assessed. Levels of AST and ALT were measured by the dinitrophenylhydrazene (DNPH) method using Sigma Kits 59–50 and 58–50, respectively and ALP by Alkaline Phosphates–DGKC method [ 26 ].…”

“…For liver soundness, alanine transferase (ALT), aspartate transferase (AST) and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) were estimated [23]. The ALT and AST levels were measured by dinitrophenylhydrazene (DNPH) through Sigma Kits 58-50 and 59-50, respectively whereas; Alkaline Phosphatas-DGKC was used for ALP assessment.…”

“…Likewise, white blood cell indices including monocytes, lymphocytes and neutrophils were measured by using Automatic Blood Analyzer (Nihon Kohden, Japan). Indicators of electrolytes balance like Na, K and Ca of collected blood samples were also probed by their respective methods [23,27].…”

“…Long-term dehydration in the arid environment with its hot humid weather is very challenging to the dromedary camel [ 49 ] and [ 22 ]. Although, the camel kidney, like other desert mammals, is very efficient in water and electrolyte regulation [ 37 ], some reports point to high elevation in some kidney function tests, such as blood urea nitrogen, creatinine, sodium, osmolality and other relevant hormonal and peptides parameters [ 4 , 2 ]. It is worth mentioning that oxidative stress, histopathological changes and apoptotic markers were studied in our recent publication on the stomach of dehydrated camels [ 6 ].…”
