Objectives: Exposure to α-cypermethrin (α-CP) may yield reactive oxygen species (ROS) that is responsible for oxidative stress in mammals. A variety of antioxidants were used to alleviate α-CP-induced toxicity in experimental animals. To the best of our knowledge, there are no attempts of using Moringa oleifera L. (MO) plant extracts against α-CP-induced toxicity. Therefore, this study was conducted.Methods: A total of 16 adult female rats were segregated into equally four groups: One group administered α-CP orally at a dose of 0.05/mg kg bw/ day; and the second group was freely allowed to drink MO leaf extract (moringa tea [MOT]) + the α-CP dose. The other two groups represented negative and positive controls. The daily consumption of the solutions was estimated. At the end of experiments (28 day), all animals were subjected to the planned manifestations.Results: MOT has proved its palatability as drinking solution more than water. Compared with control results, the relative weights of liver and brain recorded significant increases, while that of kidney, heart, spleen, ovary, and lung decreased significantly. Furthermore, alterations in the architecture of the liver, kidney, and brain were observed. α-CP treatment induced high elevation of the levels of aspartate aminotransferase, alanine amino transferase, alkaline phosphatase, creatinine, and malondialdehyde, while caused decline of butyrylcholinesterase, urea, superoxide dismutase, and total antioxidant capacity levels. Coadministration of MOT restored biochemical and histopathological alterations caused by α-CP to a great extent.Conclusion: The present study introduces novel data on the protective effect of MO leaf extract against CP toxicity and sheds light on the palatability of “MOT” to rodents.

Cypermethrin is an insecticide synthetic pyrethroid type that can disrupt the reproductive system. Cypermethrin is also capable of producing reactive oxygene species (ROS) so it is responsible for causing oxidative stress. Green tea (Camellia sinensis) is containing polyphenols that inhibit hydroxyl radicals and prooksidan enzymes. This study aims to prove that green tea ethanolic extract can increase FSH level and antral follicle count in female rats exposed to cypermethrin. The study was true experimental on 25 wistar female rats (Rattus norvegicus) which were divided into 5 groups; KN: no treatment, KP: cypermethrin 20 mg/kgBW/day, P1: cypermethrin 20 mg/kgBW/day + green tea ethanolic extract 7 mg/kgBW/day, P2: cypermethrin 20 mg/kgBW/day + green tea ethanolic extract 14 mg/kgBW/day, P3: cypermethrin 20 mg/kgBW/day + green tea ethanolic extract 28 mg/kgBW/day orally for 28 days. FSH level was measured by ELISA method and ovarian organ were taken to check antral follicle count with hematoxylin eosin staining method. FSH and antral follicle count in female rats showed a positive and strong with correlation coefficient of 0.742, which means an increase in FSH followed by an increase antral follicle count. There was a significantly difference in the level of FSH (p=0.005) and antral follicle count (p=0.001) between the control group and the treatment group. The green tea ethanolic extract can increase the FSH level and antral follicle count in female rats exposed to cypermethrin. Keywords

Extensive use of imidacloprid (IMI) insecticide in the agro-vet practices leads to continuous animal and human exposure. Exposure of pregnant dams to such insecticides results in fetal malformations. In the light of this, the present study was designed to investigate the teratogenic effects of two different doses of IMI and the possible mechanistic role of oxidative stress. Fifteen pregnant females were randomly divided into three equal groups and orally treated daily during organogenesis period (6-15th GD), control (distilled water), LD-IMI (45 mg/kg) and HD-IMI (90 mg/kg). All pregnant dams were exposed to caesarean section on GD 20. Exposure to IMI induced significant increase in the percentage of resorptions at high-dose with significant reduction of fetal and placental weights in a dose-dependent manner. External fetal morphological abnormalities were recorded only at high-dose while several visceral abnormalities were observed in fetuses at low- and high-doses. Significant increases in the percentages of fetal skeletal malformations were recorded only in the high-dose group. Significant changes in MDA, GSH levels and CAT activity with insignificant change in the level of H2O2 were recorded only in placentae of LD-IMI group. However, all these parameters recorded significant changes in serum of dams, placentae and liver of fetuses at high-dose. In conclusion, exposure of pregnant rats to IMI, particularly at higher-dose, during the period of organogenesis induced fetal teratogenic effects that may be related to its maternal and fetal oxidative damaging impacts.
