Effect of Conduction Band Non-Parabolicity on the Nonlinear Optical Properties in GaAs/Ga1−xAlxAs Double Semi-V-shaped Quantum Wells

Abstract: In this paper, we investigate the effect of conduction band non-parabolicity (NPBE) on the third harmonic generation(THG), the linear and nonlinear intersub-band optical absorption coefficients (OACs) related with electronic states of double semi-V-shaped GaAs/Ga1−xAlxAs quantum wells(QWs) by using the compact-density-matrix approach. Simultaneously, the work is performed in the position dependent effective mass in order to compute the electronic structure for the system by the finite difference and self-consi… Show more

“…In fact, with this achievement, a change of the optical parameters is possible, which is an interesting fundamental scientific tool that leads to many advances in technologies related to optics and lasers [5][6][7][8]. Due to the great interest of researchers in this area, the research in the nonlinear optics field has grown significantly [1][2][3][4][9][10][11]. One way to achieve this goal is to make materials with different synthesis methods [12][13][14].…”

“…In this manuscript, we use the finite difference technique to obtain the numerical solution of the Schrödinger equation (1) after the energies and the corresponding envelope wave functions have been obtained. The nonlinear optical properties for OR c 0 2 ( ) , SHG c w 2 2 ( ) , THG c w 3 3 ( ) and the OACs α (ω,I) can be easily calculated using the compact density matrix method and the iterative procedure, which are given by [18][19][20][21][22] c s e m d w w w 12 ( )…”

“…The nonlinear second-harmonic generation and optical rectification in semi-parabolic and semi-inverse squared QWs were investigated by H Hassanabadi et al [12]. Besides, Z H Zhang and co-workers investigated the nonlinear optical properties in several different QWs, such as Morse QWs, Modified-Pöschl-Teller QWs, and Gaussian QWs [13][14][15]. All of the above work indicates that the nonlinear optical properties are sensitively dependent on the shape, structural parameters of QW, and external fields.…”
