“…This strain is that coded as MFEL/ES/S2 GM-1-ISS48 (T1a) by La and Pozio et al (1992). It was maintained in CD-1 mice, and larvae were obtained by HCl/pepsin digestion as described previously (Ubeira et al, 1987), except that digestion time was reduced to 4 h. Adult worms were counted by direct observation under a dissection microscope as described elsewhere (Sanmartín et al, 1986), some drops of iodine being added to improve visualization. The larvae were administered to mice orally in 0.4 ml of saline (300 larvae/mouse) through an 18-gauge feeding needle attached to an automatic Cornwall-type syringe.…”

“…Larvae obtained from infected CD-I~ mice by digestion in HCl-pepsin [24] were washed with saline and administered to experimental mice by orogastric tube. The infective dose in each case was 300 viable larvae per mouse.…”

“…Trichinella nelsoni (listed as C-76) isolated in Galicia (N.W. Spain) in 1976 (Sanmartin-Duran, Santamarina & Ubeira, 1986). Trichinella nativa was a gift from Dr Boev of the Helminthological Institute, Alma-Ata, Kazakhstan, USSR, and Trichinella pseudospiralis was obtained from the Institute de Parasitologia Lopez Neyra, Granada, Spain.…”
