This present study aimed to evaluate the proximate composition of pigmented and non-pigmented rice. We have evaluated the proximate components of 16 rice bran genotypes, 9 pigmented rice bran, and 7 NP rice bran, grown and cultivated in the research fields. The proximate composition (moisture, ash, crude fat, crude proteins, crude fiber) were determined using proximate analysis methods. Raising awareness regarding rice's bran nutritional quality and health benefits is important. The results shown that black rice genotypes exhibited high range of almost all the parameters. Crude protein in black rice genotypes, ranged from 18.02-21.01%,crude fat content in black rice genotypes, ranged from 19.83-21.73% and ash content in the black rice genotypes, ranged from 14.08-16.80%, ash in black rice genotypes, ranged from 11.28-12.35%, crude fibre The result exhibited a significant difference in the content of proximate composition The study concludes that the significant distinctiveness and difference in nutritional and is use full in rice bran products. The results suggest that the black rice genotypes have better nutrition as compared to NP rice genotypes. The results showed great variations in each parameter among different rice bran varieties.

The present study was undertaken to use Foldscope for imaging and identification of rumen protozoa. Samples of rumen fluid were collected from healthy crossbred cows and stained with Lugol’s iodine and examined using Foldscope connected to a mobile. Based on morphology the protozoa were identified. Protozoa belonging to the genera Epidinium, Diplodinium, Enoploplastron, Ostracodinium, Eudiplodinum, Dasytricha, Blepharoconus, Metadinium, Isotricha were identified in healthy cattle using foldscope. This is the first report of imaging and identification of rumen protozoa using Foldscope. Foldscope is a paper microscope which can be used for imaging and identification of rumen protozoa at the field level by Veterinarians as it is handy and portable.

Brewer’s Spent Grain with Yeast Amendment Shows Potential for Anaerobic Soil Disinfestation of Weeds and Pythium irregulare

Anaerobic soil disinfestation (ASD) is a promising alternative to chemical fumigation for controlling soilborne plant pathogens and weeds. This study investigated the impact of brewer’s spent grain (BSG), a locally available carbon source, on various weed species and the oomycete pathogen Pythium irregulare in ASD. Two greenhouse studies were conducted using BSG and yeast at full and reduced rates in a completely randomized design with four replicates and two runs per study. In both studies, ASD treatments significantly decreased the seed viability of all weed species and the Pythium irregulare inoculum, while promoting higher cumulative anaerobicity compared to the non-treated control. The addition of yeast had a notable effect when combined with BSG but not with rice bran. When used in reduced carbon rates, yeast supplementation enhanced the efficacy of BSG, providing comparable control to the full rate for most weed species, including redroot pigweed, white clover, and yellow nutsedge. Interestingly, no ASD treatment affected the soil temperature. Furthermore, BSG treatments caused higher concentrations of volatile fatty acids compared to ASD with rice bran and the non-treated control. This finding suggests that the inclusion of yeast in ASD shows potential for reducing the carbon input required for effective soil disinfestation.
