Effect of charmed meson loops on charmonium transitions

Abstract: The effects of intermediate charmed mesons on charmonium transitions with the emission of one pion or eta are studied systematically. Based on a non-relativistic effective field theory we show that charmed meson loops are enhanced compared to the corresponding tree-level contributions for transitions between two S-wave charmonia as well as for transitions between two P -wave charmonia. On the contrary, for the transitions between one S-wave and one P -wave charmonium state, the loops need to be analyzed case b… Show more

“…Such a splitting was also much smaller than the corresponding splitting of m χ b2 −m χ b0 [1]. These puzzles still challenge the P-wave charmonium assignments of the Z(3930) and X(3915) [621,814,58].…”

“…[621], Guo et al doubted the χ c0 assignment of the X(3915). The OZI-allowed open-charm decay X(3915) → DD generally has a larger width than that of the X(3915).…”

“…This is because both the Y (4260)D 1D and the h c D * D vertices are S-wave, and in this case there is a large enhancement factor 1/v 3 with v ≪ 1 being the velocity of the intermediate charmed mesons (for detailed discussions, we refer to Refs. [13,23,24]). In the hadro-charmonium picture, Li and Voloshin explain the decays of the Y (4260) into both the π + π − J/ψ and π + π − h c channels by mixing two hadro-charmonium states whose cores are a 1 P 1 and 3 S 1 charmonium, respectively, into the Y (4260) and Y (4360) [18].…”

“…This result actually sets up a limit for the η-π 0 mixing contributions in ψ(3770) → J/ψ + π 0 . In contrast, the Particle Data Group (PDG2010) [15] gives an experimental upper limit BR(ψ(3770 [19,20] based on a nonrelativistic effective field theory (NREFT) suggests that the strong-isospin violation via the IML is relatively enhanced by 1/v in comparison with the tree-level contribution where the pion is emitted directly from the charmonium through soft gluon exchanges, where v ≃ 0.5 is the velocity of the intermediate charmed meson. Since ψ(3770) is close to the DD threshold, we expect that such a strong-isospin mechanism would also play a role.…”
