Effect of Cement-Asphalt Emulsion Mortar Based on a Laboratory Investigation

Abstract: As known, cement has been used as a stabilizing agent for the road pavement stabilization technique. However, it could cause an adverse effect of premature cracking on road, resulting from the inherent brittle manner of cement-stabilized materials. This research aims to investigate on a cement-asphalt emulsion mixture as a new stabilizing agent which would provide more flexibility of the road-stabilized material. Cement-asphalt emulsion mortar (CAE) (the mixture of Portland cement type I, asphalt emulsion type… Show more

“…In Figure 7(a), the flexural strength of CEA mortar-I was the lowest among the four types of CEA mortars, merely reaching 3.4, 4.0, and 5.4 MPa at ages of 3, 7, and 28 d, respectively. is is mainly because EA (with low modulus) lowered the mechanical strength of CEA mortars [34,35]. With increasing proportions of EE replacing EA, the flexural strength of CEA mortars also increased.…”

“…e exception is the flexural strength of CEA mortar-I, which only reached 5.4 MPa at 28 d, remaining below the minimum requirement of 6.0 MPa. is is mainly because of EA, which lowers the mechanical strength of CEA mortars because of its low modulus [34,35].…”
