“…In this study, how the physical changes in hardened BPRs take place following the contamination by blood was discussed. Previously, the following findings on the hardened BPR with blood contamination were reported to demonstrate that the absorption and the bone replacement of BPR may be stimulated by blood in vivo : (1) the magnitude of compressive strength decreases, (2) the porosity increases, (3) the crystallinity decreases although the conversion into HAp is unavoidable, (4) carbonate substances increase, and (5) the solubility in acids increases 25. The present study was undertaken to examine what changes the blood‐contaminated BPRs would undergo over long periods of time after setting in vivo , with the ultimate goal of assessing the clinical applicability of the technique.…”
