“…Nandecha et al . () demonstrated the effects of BH against testosterone‐induced prostatic hypertrophy in albino rats and also determined the in vitro 5α‐reductase inhibitory activity of BH extracts using HPLC. Thus, the antiandrogenic properties of this plant make it a strong candidate for the present screening.…”

“…Human prostate (about 200 mg) procured from the local hospital of Sagar was minced in small pieces and homogenized in 10 mL of medium A (20 m m sodium phosphate, pH 6.5, containing 0.32 m m sucrose and 1 m m EDTA) as described previously (Pandit et al , ; Nandecha et al , ; Nahata and Dixit, ). The homogenate was centrifuged at 4000 rpm (716 × g ) for 15 min.…”

“…Dihydrotestosterone is formed from testosterone by the enzyme 5α‐reductase which is present in prostate homogenates (Dhanotiya et al ., ; Nandecha et al ., ). Nahata & Dixit () reported that finasteride is about 10 times more potent in inhibiting 5α‐reductase activity in vitro .…”
