Effect of bagasse and bagasse ash levels on properties of pottery products

Abstract: The objective of this research was to study the effect of bagasse and bagasse ash on the properties of pottery products. In the experiments, we varied the composition of clay by adding 2%, 4%, 6%, and 8% by weight of bagasse or by adding 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20% by weight of bagasse ash and maintained the temperature of the furnace at 900 °C. The results indicate that the best composition is obtained by adding 10% by weight of bagasse ash, which yielded pottery products with improved strength (20.10 MPa), density… Show more

“…Many studies have been presented on the effect of SCBA (bagasse ash) to improve mechanical properties in concrete or clay products [1,3,[18][19][20], but in the case of metals, only limited studies have been performed on its effect on improving mechanical and wear properties of aluminium alloys [21][22][23]. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of SCBA on the mechanical properties of porous titanium alloys fabricated using the SPS process at low sintering temperatures and pressures.…”

“…Bagasse fibers and ash are used as additives in products made of clay, glass, and ceramics [123,124]. In the construction materials industry, there are manufactured ecological products from bagasse, including agglomerated panels [125,126] and other composite materials obtained from fibers extracted from bagasse [34]; bagasse can be incorporated as reinforcement material in cement composites [127][128][129] and different materials for roofs of ecological buildings [130], and for ceramic tiles [131].…”

“…Porous ceramics have attracted increasing attention and been widely used in many fields, such as separation materials [ 1 , 2 ], catalyst supports [ 3 , 4 ], bone substitute [ 5 , 6 ], etc. Cold–pressing followed by sintering is a common method to fabricate porous ceramics with simple shape [ 7 , 8 , 9 , 10 ]. Besides, some advanced techniques such as gelcasting [ 11 , 12 , 13 , 14 ], freeze casting [ 15 , 16 , 17 , 18 ] and direct forming [19] have been newly explored for fabricating porous ceramics.…”
