Effect of Acupuncture on Reducing Duration of Postoperative Ileus After Gastrectomy in Patients with Gastric Cancer: A Pilot Study Using Sitz Marker

Abstract: Although further studies are warranted, acupuncture may reduce duration of POI after gastric surgery and could be a potential factor in enhanced recovery after surgery protocols.

“…GI‐2 and GI‐3 assess time to recovery of GI function; patients must meet two endpoints for GI‐2 (passed stool and tolerated oral diet) and three for GI‐3 (includes passed flatus). Subgroup analysis by frequency shows that 100 Hz stimulation correlated with improved postoperative GI recovery in 100% of studies , vs. no improvement with 2 Hz .
