“…From a clinical perspective, it is speculated that use of HA-based oral rinses when used as an adjunct to mechanical debridement (synonym, SRP) is more effective in the treatment of CP as compared to when CHX-based mouthwashes are used with SRP. The authors of the present experimental study support the results of a split-mouth randomized clinical trial (RCT) 16 in which, 24 patients with moderate to severe CP were evaluated after SRP. In this study, the test-sites received 0.8% HA gel application as an adjunct to SRP and the control-sites underwent SRP alone.…”

“…Subgingival application of HA after full mouth SRP in chronic periodontis had beneficial effect observed, in several clinical studies, with overall improvements of periodontal tissues health [36]. Statistically significant reduction of BOP and PD, as compared to control was observed by Johannsen and co-workers, Polepalle and coworkers [46] and Al-Shammari and co-workers [47], after professional subgingival application of 0.8% HA gel, on patients with chronic periodontitis. Similar results were obtained by Rajan et al [48], Sahayata et al…”

“…The evaluation was carried out after 6 and 12 weeks and showed an improvement in the studied parameters (plaque index, gingival index, papillary bleeding, periodontal probing depth and clinical attachment loss). The levels of human beta defensin-2 (hBD-2, antimicrobial peptide) were significantly higher at the test sites than at the control sites [160].…”
