Efeito de alagamento e de aplicação de fitorreguladores na brotação de Guazuma ulmifolia (Malvaceae) e de Sesbania virgata (Fabaceae)

Abstract: -(Effect of flooding and application of plant growth regulators on sprouting of Guazuma ulmifolia (Malvaceae) and Sesbania virgata (Fabaceae)). Plants of Guazuma ulmifolia Lam. (4 month-old) and Sesbania virgata (Cav.) Pers. (2 month-old) were submitted to flooding in order to assess sprouting and elongation of the stem of these species, and to examine the effect of ethylene and kinetin in theses processes. The plants were submitted to flooding or maintained in dry soil for a period of 100 days and also toge… Show more

“…When maize crop is subjected to waterlogging, stomatal closure and declines in photosynthetic rates are common responses 11,12 . Excessive soil moisture limits plant growth by altering morphological, physiological, and anatomical mechanisms 1315 . Waterlogging decreases superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POD), ascorbate peroxidase (APX) and catalase (CAT) enzyme activities, causing damage to the protective enzyme system.…”

“…The structure of mesophyll cell and chloroplast morphology is an essential component of photosynthesis and plays a key role in determining photosynthetic assimilation capacity 21 . The morphology and ultrastructure of chloroplasts directly affects photosynthesis and significantly reduces the dry matter accumulation and yield of maize crop 1,2,68,13,1517,1922 .…”

“…Waterlogging promotes typical alterations in the biochemistry, physiology, anatomy, and morphology of plants (Cortezi and Colli 2011;Alves et al 2012). The main problem of waterlogged soil is the limited availability of oxygen to root systems, being this abiotic stress frequently showed in Amazon region.…”

“…Even brief periods of excess moisture result in considerable reductions in seed yield [7]. Waterlogging causes a variety of morphological, physiological, and biochemical alterations that adversely affect plant growth, development, and production [8][9][10].…”
