Based on a case study research carried out among Romanian immigrants in Andalusia, Spain, through this paper we aim to outline a wide image of the investigated migratory process. The focus is on the description of its fundamental characteristics and on its socio-economic implications for both the sending and the receiving regions. In this context, we aim to raise awareness among policy makers in relation with the magnitude and complexity of the phenomenon, for its proper management. Statistical and econometrical analysis were developed in order to process the information gathered through the quantitative research, while the inductive approach was used in order to analyze the information obtained from the qualitative pieces of research. The scarce fi nancial conditions in Romania determined many people to search for job opportunities – in particular in agriculture, child or elderly care, or housekeeping – in Andalusia, especially in the provinces of Seville and Huelva. However, during the past period, the economic crisis was strongly putting a mark on the Spanish economy and many of the investigated immigrants were unemployed. Even though, in general, their coming back intentions were not very clear. Socio-economic implications – both positive and negative – arise from the migration process of Romanians to Andalusia, for both the sending and the receiving countries. Remittances, solving shortages on the labor market, or increase in regional and national incomes may fi t in the fi rst category, while the second category may be composed of examples such as families left behind, school dropouts, children involvement in dangerous entourages and/or in illegal activities, tensions on the labor market etc.

Does Education Affect Rural Women’s Trust? Evidence From China

Trust is of great significance to the economic and social development of a country. In the case of China, the trust of rural women has undergone tremendous changes along with the development of rural areas. It is seen that the trust of rural women has changed from localized to generalized trust, and it is stated that the major factor leading to this transformation is education. To explore the phenomenon empirically, the current study uses the survey data of rural women sourced from China Family Panel Studies (CFPS) over the year 2018. Through the ordered probit model, the study reveals that education plays a significant role in influencing rural women’s generalized trust and localized trust. Through mediation analysis, the study further reveals that reliance on Internet information, access to public resources, and income are the factors mediating the relationship between education and generalized trust. Besides, the outcomes further unveil that the impact of education on localized trust is stronger when the level of mobility is low. For robustness check, the current study additionally employs a regression discontinuity model. The overall findings elucidate that education is the major factor triggering the trust of rural women in China. The findings propose that policymakers in China should imply education-oriented strategies as individuals with higher levels of education are more inclined to trust others.

Migraciones internas, inmigración exterior y emigración de españoles hacia M. González-Leonardo el extranjero: un balance por nivel educativo. ¿Es España un país de baja movilidad? 592 Documents d'Anàlisi Geogràfica 2020, vol. 66/3 Résumé. Analyser les migrations internes, l'immigration étrangère et l'émigration des Espagnols à l'étranger selon le niveau d'éducation. L'Espagne est-elle un pays avec une faible mobilité ?Des études comparatives affirment que l'Espagne est un pays à faible mobilité interne. Cependant, cette affirmation généraliste cache une hétérogénéité géographique plus complexe, notamment car l'intensité migratoire diffère selon le territoire et le niveau d'éducation des individus. Par exemple, tandis que les soldes migratoires entre les provinces espagnoles sont relativement équilibrés pour des populations autochtones peu qualifiées, à l'exception des logiques spatiales de la déconcentration, l'analyse de la dynamique migratoire des jeunes diplômés de l'université révèle d'importants processus d'expulsion et de causalité cumulative. En termes quantitatifs, l'émigration des Espagnols à l'étranger est insignifiante par rapport à la mobilité interne. Enfin, en ce qui concerne l'immigration étrangère, elle a contribué à nourrir le processus d'accumulation de capital humain qualifié dans les zones où étaient déjà concentrées les talents autochtones alors que les immigrés les moins qualifiés se sont installés dans les provinces qui séculairement ont un solde migratoire négatif.
