“…Fat-suppressed proton density-weighted MRI mainly detects protons derived from water, and sweat is mostly water, although it also contains electrolytes, fatty acids, lactic acid, urea and uric acid. [1,13,15,16] However, whether the proton density-weighted F I G U R E 2 Fluid secretion of 3D reconstructed eccrine sweat glands detected by the fat-suppressed proton density-weighted MRI sequence. Images of the plugs and the selected ROIs (A, B).…”

“…[11,14] Proton density-weighted imaging mainly reflects the differences in proton density, primarily hydrogen atoms, among different tissues and organs, so when the signal from fat is suppressed, the detected hydrogen atoms are mainly derived from water. [13,15,16] In this study, we determined the fluid secretion of 3D reconstructed and native eccrine sweat glands by fat-suppressed proton density-weighted MRI. The results show that there is a clear increase in mean proton intensity after pilocarpine injection compared with that before pilocarpine injection, in both the 3D reconstructed and native eccrine sweat glands.…”
