Economical and Reliable Expansion Alternative of Composite Power System under Restructuring

Abstract: The paper intends to select the most economical and reliable expansion alternative of a composite power system to meet the expected future load growth. In order to reduce time computational quantity, a heuristic algorithm is adopted for composite power system reliability evaluation is proposed. The proposed algorithm is based on Monte-Carlo simulation method. The reliability indices are estimated for system base case and for the case of adding peaking generation units. The least cost reserve margin for the add… Show more

“…Although many PEM schemes have been suggested [12][13][14][15][16] and have been used to solve the problem of probabilistic power flow [15,26], this paper proposes the use of the 2m+1 PEM proposed by Hong in [16]. The purpose is to compute the common reliability (availability) indices: Loss of Load Probability (LOLP) and Expected Energy Not Supplied (EENS) as are defined at [26,27], using the state enumeration method.…”

“…In the unit-commitment formulation, a stochastic approach is used, particularly, the authors in [7] report about the use of scenarios for generation with distribution probability functions, the demand is considered constant. Formulations with a stochastic approach has been suggested to manage wind power uncertainty in power system operation [8][9][10][11] and in microgrids in [12]. The flexibility in power system operation will be a critical issue under high penetration of wind power to deal with uncertainty and intermittency.…”

“…Most of the electrical grid reliability assessment approaches use approximation orsimplification of the problem to degrade the problem at a solvable level. The most economical and reliable expansion alternative of a power system to meet the expected future load growth using a heuristic algorithm is selected in [3]. In [4] a real-time design of efficient monitoring and control of grid power system is presented using the remote cloud server to fetch, monitor and control the real-time power system data to improve the universal control and response time.…”
