Microbusinesses and small enterprises are the dominant representatives of business in the rural environment, and also active players contributing to regional development. Rural areas of Slovakia are still considered to be underused. Exploiting the potential of rural regions is the key to the recovery of rural businesses. Development of rural areas depends on the economic activity taking place in different regions. One of the possibilities for regional development is to promote specific fields of tourism, e.g., rural tourism and agrotourism. This article focuses on the evaluation of entrepreneurial activities in rural tourism based on the empirical research conducted in different regions of Slovakia. The survey sample included 142 business entities. The research was conducted between 2012 and 2016. We have applied quantitative analysis based on questionnaire survey and the Friedman test. Our research shows that benefits generated by rural tourism and agrotourism provide a positive impact on the success of businesses and help in diversification of business risks.

The role of foreign direct investment in the economy of Slovakia

In the paper, we point out the role of FDI in the Slovak economy, analyze their status in the period from 2010 to 2015, suggest their regional and branch aspect. FDI is an effective form of international business that complements lack of internal resources and contributes to economic growth. As competition of FDI is very strong, it is important to create appropriate economic, political and legislative conditions that the economy is capable of creating for foreign investors. The state of FDI in the Slovak economy has been gradually increasing since 2010, but its large sectoral and regional imbalances appear to be unfavorable. The impact of FDI on GDP development indicates that each FDI unit contributes to economic growth, respectively GDP growth; it affects employment and contributes to the solution of unemployment. The problems of FDI in the Slovak economy are one-sided positioning in the automotive industry and at the same time their location in the developed regions, i.e. in the area of Western Slovakia.

The paper is a part of a long-term research of the mass media market in the Slovak Republic under the conditions of globalization. The main objective of the research study is to analyse the development trends of the market of selected radios in the Slovak republic in the monitored period 2016-2019. The authors focus on the analysis of the development of listening and the volume of financial resources spent on advertising (number of spots, number of broadcast hours, value of advertising broadcasts) for selected radios with nationwide coverage. Among other things, the research showed a decrease in market share for all monitored radios and a decrease in listening for most of the monitored radios. The authors think that the above is because radio managements are not able to adapt sufficiently to the time that affects the listeners. From the above, the authors also warn the management of radio stations to increase the emphasis on development, the structure of broadcasting and to try to stop the clear decline in the development of radio.
