Norbert Elias's Relational Molecular Thinking and Weberian Atomistic Sociology: Approaches and Distances AbstRActAre there more approaches or more distances beetween Elias and Weber? Had Elias in his productions substantially diverged or would he have supplemented and corrected possible unilateralities of Weber's theory? This work aimed to analyze the factors that unite and those that distance these two authors, from their positions in terms of an "atomistic" sociology, in the case of Weber, or "molecular" sociology, in the case of Elias. For this, Weber's repercussion in Elias was analyzed in the monographic works «The civilizing process» and «The court society «, through a theoretical-methodological approach, at the same time, systematic and contextual. In both Weber's and Elias's sociology, individuals are not «floating in space», but rather find themselves trapped in a weft of relations with other individuals. It is the action's reciprocity [Wechselwirkung]. However, a divergence between the two authors is precisely in the "molecular" aspect of the Eliasian thought: action, never strictly individual, is always analyzed considering contextual and relational elements, subject to the specific rules and conventions of the figurations that the individual integrates along his life.
