Ecological problems of utilization of waste activated sludge of saratov refinery and ways to solve them

Abstract: The ecological problems of the Saratov Refinery (SarNPZ) associated with utilization of waste activated sludge (WAS) are analyzed. The feasibility of utilization of this waste as a feedstock for producing sorbent for cleaning effluents from the refinery is examined. A technological scheme for producing, applying, and utilizing WAS-based sorbent is proposed. The Saratov Refinery (SarNPZ) refines six million tons of crude oil per year and produces Euro-2-class gasoline, kerosene, residual fuel oil, diesel oil, as… Show more

“…Adsorption of biological materials is the removal of pollutants (organic and inorganic compounds) by inactive non-living biomass (materials of biological origin) due to the "high force of attraction" between them. Being widely and easily reproducible, plants tend to play an essential role among biological materials [1][2][3][4][5][6].…”

“…The severity of the environmental problem is specified by the accumulation of large volumes of various wastes, including sewage sludge (SS) [2][3][4]. This creates unpredictability and can grow into an ecological catastrophe, as due to anthropogenic impact (constant pollution of ground and surface waters, soils, vegetation) every year it is aggravated and requires a solution.…”
