“…The functional unit indeed should be based on insight of variability of different behavior, based on behavior measuring. (Kaiser et al 2003). Additionally, differences in use phase could be linked to variability in behavior due to, e.g., lifestyle (Heinonen and Junnila 2011;Bin and Dowlatabadi 2005), geographical context (Schlegel et al 2012), income (Girod and de Haan 2010), age and demographic aspects (Zagheni 2011) etc.…”

“…Doubts have been raised about the accuracy and validity of such measures (Kormos & Gifford, 2014), as participants' responses may be biased (e.g., due to a tendency to over-report behavior or to fail to accurately recall behavior). However, our use of a dichotomized response scale should minimize such bias: Research suggests that pro-environmental behavior can be more objectively reported by participants through the use of dichotomized response options for rating engagement in specific behaviors (Kaiser, Doka, Hofstetter, & Ranney, 2003). We also sought to increase the accuracy of participants' responses by minimizing the period of retrospection (to the 2.5 hours) prior to completing the survey, thereby improving recall accuracy (Schwarz, 2012).…”

“…They have increasingly adopted these sustainable behaviours, both when at home and during their travels. Accordingly, abundant research focuses on the environmental behaviour of tourists, investigating factors influencing their attitudes, how they are engaged in protecting the natural environment at destinations, and strategies to educate them on environmental concerns [8][9][10][11][12]. The adoption of sustainable behaviours by tourists is also particularly relevant in heritage tourism.…”
