Early Thimerosal Exposure and Neuropsychological Outcomes at 7 to 10 Years

Abstract: Our study does not support a causal association between early exposure to mercury from thimerosal-containing vaccines and immune globulins and deficits in neuropsychological functioning at the age of 7 to 10 years.

“…Il empêche le développement bactérien dans le produit, et améliore sa stabilité. Le schéma à deux injections pour les vaccins pandémiques apporte une dose de 2 x 25 microgrammes de mercure, ce qui est acceptable en population générale et chez la femme enceinte (seuil fixé à 1,6 microgrammes de mercure par kg) [13]. Les effets Vaccins anti-A/(H1N1) en France au 9 novembre*, ou en cours de développement.…”

“…Coincidently, around this time, the U.S. health authorities decided to withdraw thimerosal (as a preservative) from infants’ vaccines (Geier and Geier 2005). This decision generated controversy that impacted immunization and also demanded epidemiologic studies to evaluate the neurotoxic consequences (Thompson et al 2007). Therefore, Lederman et al’s (2008) study cohort probably contained not only children immunized with thimerosal-containing vaccines (TCV) but also some mothers using products containing thimerosal during pregnancy (e.g., Rh-negative mothers taking anti-RhoD immune globulins) (Geier et al 2008).…”

“…This controversial issue (safety of early exposure to EtHg and neurodevelopment) has only recently been considered in epidemiologic studies of U.S. children (Thompson et al 2007). Although the beneficial effect of (maternal) fish consumption is a concept emerging in most recent studies that have explored the neurodevelopment of children, the few studies of TCV’s effects on neurodevelopment have been inconclusive in the United States.…”

“…The most recent epidemiologic studies (Thompson et al 2007; Young et al 2008) exemplify current uncertainties related to the U.S. Federal Court compensation claimed on adverse effects triggered by TCVs (Offit et al 2008). Although the statistical analysis of Tang et al (2008) was well designed for prenatal events, perinatal TCV-EtHg exposure not evaluated by cord blood measurements could not account for effects (albeit transient) on neurodevelopment at 2 years of age.…”
