Early Intervention of Negative Pressure Wound Therapy Using Vacuum-Assisted Closure in Trauma Patients

Abstract: Acute-care trauma wound patients receiving early NPWT/ROCF demonstrated significant reductions in length of stay, treatment days, and ICU stay, which resulted in significant reduced patient treatment costs. These results indicate that early intervention with NPWT/ROCF has potential clinical and cost-effective benefits for the treatment of traumatic wounds.

“…2 Ultrasound of the wound area with a postoperative seroma in the control group with soft tissue defects if a NPWT device was applied early, i.e. on day one or two of treatment in comparison to patients who received this treatment later [20]. The early application of NPWT seems to have a positive impact on wound healing.…”

“…12 It prevents frequent pain experience, patients had during frequent change of such large wounds dressings. 13 Complications associated with VAC technique include localized infection, bad odour, toxic shock syndrome and anasarca. 14,15 Many modern therapies for chronic wounds have been advocated which include ultrasound, laser therapy, electrical stimulation, and electromagnetic waves.…”

“…Treatment with SPT is one of the most important adjuvants in an attempt to minimize the length of hospitalization, and therefore the costs involved 18 . It is necessary to mention that the use of negative pressure therapy is not a definitive treatment, but a measure intermediate to final skin coverage through grafts and flaps.…”
