Early dynamic 201Tl SPECT in the evaluation of brain tumours

Abstract: We suggest that the performance of 201Tl dynamic SPECT for 15 min is useful for distinguishing malignant brain tumours from benign brain tumours and reduces the examination stress of patients.

“…Tl SPECT is a functional imaging technique that facilitates diagnosis of tumor malignancy and activity [14]. An early Tl SPECT image mainly shows tumor blood flow, and a delayed image mainly shows tumor malignancy and activity [15]. The Tl SPECT findings in our patient were comparable to those of patients with benign meningioma showing high blood flow and low malignancy.…”

“…Tedeschi et al found the early temporal pattern of T1-201 concentration in intracranial meningiomas is probably related to their biologic aggressiveness, 11 and Sugo et al suggested that dynamic 201 TlCl SPECT was useful in distinguishing malignant brain tumors from benign tumors. 23 Our current study revealed 13 N-NH 3 was unable to differentiate grade I from grade II meningiomas. Unlike 13 N-NH 3 , F-18 FDG accumulated more in the grade II meningiomas than in the grade I tumors, and F-18 FDG is a more accurate reflection of tumor grade than is 13 N-NH 3 uptake.…”
